MMORPG is taking over the world. Err, at least that’s what I read on cracked.com to back up my point. For the benefit of those who don’t have a clue what MMOORPG is, it stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game which makes you want to call it thankfully MMORPG for short.
MMORPG is the most “instantly, gripping, involving and demanding entertainment technology ever invented” to date. There are 10 million MMORPG users and counting and is expected to grow double its rate every two years.
Here are some predictions how the nation’s favorite past time of online gaming as the next best thing could reshape the future.
1. Everyone will look like a Greek god or goddess.
In the world of fantasy, you get to pick what you look like and what your talents are. Sure we all want to be gods and goddesses. When you live in the MMORPG world, you can be whoever you want to be regardless if you are born short or grew up with pimples on your face. It sure would be nice to live in a world where imperfections fail to exist.
2. All will play in the same virtual world.
The merge of Blizzard, Square/Enix and Sony and their virtual worlds made all gamers jump with joy. This improvement affords players the convenience of switching from one virtual to another. The user interface has long been there enabling communication through chatting. It certainly would help if this user interface can be found in your phone no matter where you maybe.
3. Someone will go to jail for stealing a Bonebiter.
Objects such as weapons in the virtual world can be stolen that leads us to question if there would be a syndicate in the near future to punish those thieves. Not unless gamers become lawmakers to make theft cases in the virtual world seemingly impossible.
4. You’ll meet someone who plays an MMORPG for a living.
How about turning your game money into real money? It may sound too good to be true but some people in reality do make a living out from selling hard-to-get items in games they play apart from other “goods” available. It’s a great prediction for those who are sucked in the virtual world. IT sure is better to make cash while having fun.
5. They’ll take the “G” out of “MMORPG.”
This is a fun prediction. Imagine walking into a real Target store and shop for merchandise in real time 3D, check them out with your own virtual hands and buy them the same way you can do through Amazon.com. On top of it, you get to choose to look like whoever you want to be - the best you can be while living life in the virtual world.
6. You will find yourself momentarily forgetting whether you’re in the real or virtual world.
Graphics becoming life quality especially with graphics and user interface improvements in the likes of voice-operated or thought-automated machines or gadgets might sound too ambitious when mentioned in this decade. Let’s hope this momentary confusion between real or virtual world is because we are blown away by the great visuals or impressive features not how we are totally immersed that we forget who we are.
7. You’ll meet a couple who have been married for years and have never seen each other’s real-life faces.
I bet many moralists would be raising their eyebrows with this possible future in the MMORPG world. Sounds fun for a game to marry the prince of your dreams or the damsel in distress. It goes well for those who are engulfed in the virtual world but not for the faint of heart.
8. There will be a branch of government to rule the virtual world.
Numerous questions would pop out when there is a branch of government handling virtual crimes. Basically we have to adapt then convert how real world handles crimes to the virtual world. It sounds good o me but complicated as well.
9. There will be a whole class of wealthy people without a dime to their name.
A gamer rich with game money but poor in real life holds true for some if not most people. Think of living in a grandest mansion you could ever dream of but in reality life live in a modest looking house. Question is we are still human beings with actual needs so virtual world may remain a virtual world not totally replacing the REAL world. I could wrong but we will soon see when we blast into the future.
10. The rise of the metaverse will go almost completely unopposed.
Humans might want to escape from the complexity of social interaction in the real world which metaverse has. The rise of the metaverse can go almost unopposed for me. A world without the unpredictability of real, unrestrained humanity is a welcomed change. It could be only in a matter of time to turn this prediction to reality.
